Dear Cycling Community,

I live in Westwood, and use the Westwood Blvd. corridor to commute. I can attest that the implementation of the proposed Westwood transit improvement is vital for the UCLA and larger LA cycling community. A cycling census has shown that this is one of the most-traveled streets in LA by cyclists.

Unfortunately, the NIMBYers have come out in force to block the implementation of the Westwood Blvd bike lanes. The local homeowner's association has been encouraging the residents to petition city representatives to block the implementation of the plan. For the hearing tonight, Feb. 19, residents have also been encouraged to show up to oppose the plan.

I'm having trouble finding pro-cyclist advocates to attend the meeting to speak on our behalf. Please help me, and every other cyclist in LA who uses this corridor by showing up, and speaking for implementation of this vital safety revision.

The hearing is tonight (Feb. 19, 2013) 6 pm to 8:30 pm LADOT Western Parking Enforcement Office, 11214 W. Exposition Blvd.

We need all of you there! Thanks

OUTRAGEOUS.

Two years is not nearly enough for someone that runs another human being over to die in the street like a dog. Angel may well have survived if he received timely medical care, but we'll never know, will we?

We'll also never know if Byun was DUI or otherwise impaired when he struck Angel, because he fled the scene. Also noteworthy is that Byun DID NOT turn himself in... he was caught when someone with a conscience reported him. Remorse, guilt, and shame comes pretty easy after you've been caught. I would ask Byun's father... if you felt so much remorse for what you're son did, why didn't you convince him to turn himself in? How is it that a neighbor figured out what happened and you did not? In fact, you were complicit in him covering up his crime.

It's been recently reported that in Los Angeles, 40-50% of collisions are a hit and run(!) It is LONG OVERDUE to change the law to demand higher penalties for people who commit the CRIME of hit and run, to eliminate any advantage the criminal may obtain by running from the crash.
